Job Description:
Job Summary (1) Patrols jurisdiction to respond to emergency calls and citizen complaints. Enforces traffic laws; provides backup; issues citations; investigates accidents; provides security inspections of public and private facilities; handles disturbances; responds to breaking and entering; investigates domestic quarrels, investigates complaints and provides assistance to the general public as necessary (2) Handles initial and continuing criminal investigations. May assist Detective division when needed. Investigates crime scenes; interviews witnesses, victims and suspects; preserves crime scenes, etc. Makes arrests. Restrains and transports prisoners to jail. (3) Maintains records and prepares reports reflecting incidents, complaints, contacts, etc. during assigned shift. Reports on accidents, stolen vehicles, missing persons, criminal investigations, etc. (4) Testifies in court to assist in prosecuting criminal cases. Confers with Prosecutor to assist in planning prosecution strategy. (5) Serves warrants and civil papers as required and documents related records. (6) Transports inmates to and from jail, court, medical appointments, etc. when needed. Ensures prisoner is transported in secure manner and according to standard procedure. (7) Speaks to churches, schools, civic groups and other organizations to promote goodwill and to increase public awareness of crime prevention methods.
