Job Description:
Summary: Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the Human Resources Manager is responsible for the daily direction and implementation of all HR departmental functions, ensuring seamless alignment between business operations and people management. This role acts as the primary lead for regulatory compliance, benefit administration, and employee relations. By maintaining a deep understanding of federal and Ohio labor laws, the HR Manager mitigates organizational risk while providing expert guidance to management on conflict resolution, policy enforcement, and staff development. Essential Functions: Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following: • Serve and provide onsite HR leadership and support for facilities, the main point of contact for all employee relations issues. • Advise, recommend and assist management regarding resolutions for employee-related issues including performance management, discipline, leaves, modified duty/reasonable accommodation assignments, policies, procedures and processes. • Manage the full-cycle recruitment process (including DOT), leveraging local job boards (e.g., OhioMeansJobs) and university partnerships (e.g., OSU, UC, OU) to build a local talent pipeline. • Participate in and lead key HR initiatives, including management training, policy changes, performance management, organization planning, benefit enrollment, and employee development. • Understand dynamics and key business priorities to provide effective coaching to business leaders. • Plan, coordinate and administer various human resources plans and procedures for all company employees; assist in the development and implementation of personnel policies and procedure goals, objectives and systems • Manage the day-to-day delivery of human resources services and respond to general employee or Supervisor/Manager questions related to company policies and procedures • Responsible for the administration and management of leaves of absences including advising supervisors and employees regarding Federal, State and Company policies and processes, such as FMLA, Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation, Military leave, etc. • Develop and deliver Company-wide Employee trainings, such as but not limited to Harassment Prevention, Workplace Violence Prevention, Policy Changes, etc. • Responsible for working with the organization’s Safety Manager in the administration and management of the Workers Compensation claims for the organization. The HR Manager will manage the training, distribution of materials; ensure timely completion and processing of claim forms, monitor claims status and partner with operation leaders and the Safety Manager to complete appropriate OSHA reporting forms. • Administer health and retirement plans; ensure pay practices align with the Ohio Minimum Wage standards and the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). • Assist with facilitating employee appreciation events and activities to promote employee engagement. • Responsible for maintaining compliance with federal and state regulations. • Responsible for analyzing turnover; understand and conduct exit interviews. • Responsible for driving the annual performance review process and providing coaching to department heads on disciplinary actions. • Responsible for the administration and record keeping of DOT Pre-Employment and DOT Random Drug and Alcohol Testing. Additional Responsibilities: • Perform related duties and/or special projects as assigned Qualifications: Knowledge of: • Principles and practices of personnel management including recruitment, performance management, benefits administration, and training and development • Pertinent federal, state, local laws and regulations. • FMLA, Military, and other leave rights. • Pay rules and payroll processing. • Principles and practices of organizational analysis, motivation, team building and conflict resolution • DOT regulations and pre-employment requirements. Ability to: • Speak, read, and write in English. Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely. • Interact effectively and cooperatively with employees at all levels while maintaining objectivity and confidentiality. • Interpret and explain Company policies and procedures • Develop and recommend policies and procedures • Conduct investigations related to harassment, discrimination, workplace violence and other related issues in violation of the Company’s conduct standards • Review and prepare comprehensive analyses and reports • Develop and deliver effective presentations and training • Work with, manage and control sensitive confidential information • Build and maintain positive working relationships within the organization. • Work independently Experience and Training Guidelines: • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college with major coursework in Business • Administration, Human Resources management or closely related field. • 5+ years of HR experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role. • PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SCP favorable. • Proficiency with HRIS platforms (UKG preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite. • Proven experience managing Ohio BWC claims and a solid understanding of Ohio-specific employment statutes (e.g., Ohio Civil Rights Act). • Excellent organization and time management skills • Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record. Special Demands: Physical Requirements: • Frequent use of keyboard; frequent sitting for long periods of time; occasional bending or squatting • May lift up to 10 pounds • Constant use of overall vision; frequent reading and close-up work • Frequent repetitive motion; frequent writing, grasping, holding and reaching • Frequent hearing and talking in person and on the phone • Frequent decision-making and concentration; frequent employee contact Working Conditions: • Work is primarily performed in a typical temperature-controlled office environment subject to typical office noise; may require overtime, weekend work and the ability to travel. • Frequent exposure to loud production environments while conducting onsite visits.
