STATUS: Full-Time FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt CS STATUS: Classified NORMAL WORK HOURS: 7:30 A.M. to 3:30 P.M., Monday through Friday   General Purpose of Job This is skilled electrical work in the operation and maintenance within the Wastewater Collection and Wastewater Treatment Divisions of the Allen County Sanitary Engineering Department.  Maintains sanitary sewage pump stations, wastewater treatment plant, and building electrical systems, instrumentation, telemetering, conducts electric and electronic tests, installs and or replaces electrical equipment including but not limited to controls, motors, conduit, wire, etc.  Uses specialized electric and electronic tools and diagnostic equipment.  Work of this class involves participation with or performance of assigned duties as directed by the Wastewater Collection and Wastewater Treatment Superintendents who are responsible for the operation of the Allen County Wastewater Collection and Treatment systems.  An employee of this class must be able to perform tasks independent of supervision, prioritize work and direct Lift Station and Treatment Plant Operators and other personnel in the overhaul, troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of various types of electrical equipment or components as associated with the wastewater collection Lift Stations and Treatment Plants.  Safety procedures and protocols are required, and are to be followed at ALL times.  (Examples : Electrical, Confined Space, PPE)     Essential Duties, Job Functions and Responsibilities include the following.   • Maintains WWC Lift Stations and WWT Plant instrumentation, telemetering, electrical systems, and programmable logic controllers (PLC).
  • Conducts electric and electronic tests, installs conduits, wire, and controls and services same as needed.
  • Set up, stocks, and keeps readiness, an electrical and electronic instrumentation repair area, and uses specialized electric and electronic tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Will observe lift station equipment to ensure mechanical, integrity, equipment vibrations, noise, wear and leaking lubricants, as per manufacturer guidelines and recommendations.
  • Will perform preventative and routine maintenance as defined by the lift station equipment manuals, which will include but not limited to: lubrication, belt alignment and tension, coupling alignment and component replacements.
  • Required to perform lock/out tag/out, and arc flash safety procedures when required to remove electric motors, pumps and controls for repair or replacement.
  • Have the knowledge and skill to use tools required for maintenance of collection system lift station equipment, and wastewater treatment equipment.
  • Maintain maintenance records on all of the above.

  • Will be required to carry Allen County provided cellular phone.
  • Direct common customer complaints to supervision.
  • Will maintain accurate maintenance records on lift station/treatment plant equipment.
  • Operate computer entering and retrieving data using various software programs, etc.
  • Must be able to schedule and reschedule maintenance duties using computer maintenance program, working with the Wastewater Collection Superintendent to set priorities.
  • Assist in generating monthly reports, operational and EPA.
  • Must be able to keep records, and generate reports as required by the Wastewater Collection Superintendent.
  • Attend Safety and Equipment training as required.

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Electrical / Electronic Associates Degree. (from an accredited institution)
  • Knowledge of methods, practices, tools and materials used to perform the typical tasks as outlined in this job description, including following safety procedures and protocols.
  • Must have (10) ten years cumulative experience in industrial electrical equipment diagnostics and repair, or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.
  • Ability to read and comprehend electrical and electronic schematics.
  • Ability to read and comprehend blueprints.
  • Intermediate computer skills.
  Language Skills Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common technical manuals.  Ability to respond to common inquiries.  Ability to effectively present information to management. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Will be required to deal with the public in a sound and professional manner.   Mathematical Skills Ability to calculate figures and amounts to satisfactory complete all documents required by county, state and federal agencies.         Reasoning Ability Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.   Certificates, Licenses, Registration Journeyman Electrical Certificate Class I OEPA Wastewater Collection I Operator Certification (obtain within two (2) years)   Physical Demands The physical demands described herein are representative of those, which must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Will be required to do prolong standing; lift up to 50 lbs; load and unload 100 lb. from truck; work in permit and non permit required confined spaces, i.e. open trenches and manholes; move 280 lb.chlorine cylinder; move 650 lb. drums with handcart; wear supplied uniform at all times; wear proper safety clothing and gear when needed; shovel snow; run 90 lb. jack hammer; dig trenches by hand; work in all climates of outdoor weather; work variable hours based upon work load and schedule; work weekends and holidays; follow the policy and procedures set forth by the Allen County Sanitary Engineering Department; be on call 24 hours a day seven days a week. Will be required to perform all job tasks using Federal, State and County safety guidelines and precautions.
