Job Description:
Summary of Position Under general supervision of the Child Care Director and Assistant Director, the employee:
Summary of Position Under general supervision of the Child Care Director and Assistant Director, the employee:
- cares for group of children in the child care center following state laws, Ohio Department of Job and Family Services guidelines, Center policies and Procedures outlined in the Parent Handbook,
- provides affection and attention to all children
- provides child specific and developmentally appropriate basic physical and hygienic care including dressing, diapering, toileting, feeding, etc. while maintaining child dignity,
- lifts and carries children weighing in range from 8 to greater than 40 pounds,
- reports suspected child abuse and/or neglect when appropriate,
- demonstrates regular attendance maintaining an appropriate positive demeanor, well groomed appearance, and professional work appropriate attire as laid out in employee handbook
- meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OHSA standards
- inspects child care areas to identify safety issues and notifies director and/or resolves issue on own; employs first aid to children as needed,
- maintains confidentiality when appropriate and necessary in center,
- prepares snacks, serves meals, and drink to children,
- educates and leads children according to Ohio’s Early Learning and Development Standards and Center Mission Statement and Objectives in activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth; health and personal habits, such as eating, resting, and toilet habits,
- leads and organizes activities in the classroom such as circle time, outdoor play, science activities, large motor activities, and messy play,
- reads to children and instructs them in various crafting and art opportunities,
- plans, organizes, implements, and leads theme-based lesson plans appropriate for developmental needs of the children in their class or group weekly
- observes and keeps record of each child’s growth and development as needed, which includes developmental checklists and prekindergarten guidelines, monitors child progress academically, intellectually, socially, and emotionally and reports assessment as needed while able to suggest resources for follow-up,
- follows through with a child’s individualized education program (IEP) goals as necessary,
- follows through with medical/allergy plans specific to each child,
- maintains child care center performing basic tasks such as vacuuming, sweeping with a broom, sanitizing toys, wiping tables or other surfaces clean to ensure hygiene and safety of children and fellow employees in the center
- pushing and pulling cots into and out of area of storage for nap time (up to 50#)
- plans and provides a visually stimulating learning area that facilitates social, cognitive, emotional, language, and physical development for the children
- completes communication paperwork to provide for parent daily,
- conducts parent conferences when necessary, with assist/support of director and or assistant director
- participates in community activities while maintaining professional dress and behavior while representing the Child Care Center
- performs all other related duties set forth or directed by the Director or assistant director as needed such as changing toiletries, assisting in stocking diapers and paper products in the center, assists in completion of medical forms, medication forms, allergy forms

- Must be over the age of 18 years old
- Completion of high school and/or GED
- Completion of CDA in Early Childhood Education or a similar/related field (provide copy of diploma) and/or must have at least one year of experience in childhood education
- Must meet all requirements set forth by Job and Family Services including Background Check
- Must have had a general wellness physical within the 90 days passing all physical requirements for position (see description below)
- Must complete/pass pre-employment drug screen
- Completion of the Following Certifications prior to or within the first 90 days of employment and maintain this updated certification status as needed: CPR certification, First Aid Certification, Child Abuse Recognition Training Certification Communicable Diseases Training for Child Care Providers working in Licensed Centers
- Must be able to Operate a standard computer, telephone, copy machine, printer, and First Aid Kit
- Fluently speaks, writes, and understands the English language
- Employs appropriate basic grammar, alphabet, and math skills
- Distinguishes colors
- Travels to and gains work access
- Maintains a well-groomed appearance
- Lifts, pushes, pulls, positions children and/or items up to 75#
- Acknowledges and abides by Center Guidelines, objectives, mission statement as set out in the Parent and Employee Handbooks
- Carries out Basic Curriculum design and lesson plans each week
- Utilizes Microsoft word or other such basic computer programs
- Employs active listening, problem solving, reasoning, and common-sense skills
- Considers others when acting or carrying out a task
- Handles confrontation with appropriate diffusion or referral to Director/assistant director
- Employs logic in solving problems or challenges
- Able to move and react quickly and to handle emergencies effectively
- Respectfully communicates with children, parents’, co-workers, and superiors
- Accepts constructive criticism, controls temper, and avoids aggressive behavior
- Safely handles cleaning supplies and materials
- Safeguards sensitive or confidential forms or items relative to children or facility operations/personnel
