Duties/Responsibilities: Operates dump truck to pick up and deliver stones, dirt, tar and other materials to and from street and sewer maintenance work sites. Operates other equipment to assist in maintaining city streets and sewers.
Performs various manual labor tasks; loads and unloads trucks; shovels black top to cold and hot patch potholes; mixes cement and assists in pouring; lays brick for sidewalks, curbs, abutments, driveways, catch-basins, and other sewer or street structures; digs up leaking water and sewer pipes and helps repair or replace pipes, taps and valves.
Flags traffic in and around work sites; repairs, straightens and replaces traffic signs and traffic light bulbs.
Checks and services vehicles and equipment fuel, oil, drive fluids, batteries, greasing, etc.; changes filters, hoses, attachments, parts, etc.; makes minor adjustments and field repairs as required; notifies Supervisor or major mechanical malfunctions to initiate repair and maintenance process; assists Mechanic in making major adjustments and repairs in field or shop or shop as required; cleans vehicles and equipment interiors and exteriors; performs touch-up painting as required.
Shovels walks and spreads salt to clean city streets and walks of ice and snow.
All other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
Required Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of light equipment operating methods; street and sewer maintenance methods, materials and equipment; work safety practices; motor vehicle traffic laws and safe driving practices; Commercial Driver’s License qualifying standards.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, associates and general public; work for extended periods of time under possibly adverse weather and other conditions; cooperate with co-workers on group projects; lift and move heavy objects; follow instructions.
Equipment Operated: Truck, picker, power saw, cement mixer, jet rodder, small sludge tanker, lawn mowers, leafer, chipper, weedeater, bucket machine, paint sprayer, air compressor, paint walker, chainsaw, jack hammer, pipe saw, pick, shovel, water pump, pipe cracker, line locator, leak detector, metal locator, flashing light and arrow, tamper, hydraulic cutters, air grinder, hand tools, and other street and sewer maintenance equipment.

Working Conditions: Exposure to heat, cold, dampness, smells, noise, dirt, dust and traffic.
Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent; an appropriate combination of education, training, course work and experience may qualify an applicant to demonstrate required knowledge, skills and abilities. An example of an acceptable qualification is: training and/or work experience in operating a truck and other equipment; possession of a valid State of Ohio Commercial Driver’s license.
Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds at times.
Licensure or Certification Requirements: Ohio Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
